People seem to have experienced better exchange rates with the exchange bureau mentioned than banks. Actual YVR Vancouver Airport exchange rates will vary due to local market demand for currencies being exchanged, if the exchange is made with cash or travellers cheques, and local competition.
I don't know if you mean the Royal Bank one? I would expect that their rates would be the same as any other Royal Bank. Check under the Domestic Terminal maps. It opened earlier this year. Apart from being quite tiny, it offers full branch services at regular branch prices, for it's customers anyway. I had a debit card replaced when I misplaced it the night befor a 6 am flight to YVR. Same franchise, different location. You might be interested in this thread and the one to which it refers regarding exchange of money.
People seem to have experienced better exchange rates with the exchange bureau mentioned than banks. I think doing homework is key here. Personally on the way to Mexico, I will get some "starter pesos" at the airport to get me cabbed, fed and cushioned till I get my bearing on location and use the local mexican bank ATMs. Not the airport ones, which sometimes ding you with big fees as well If I pay a premium, I feel I am buying convenience, killing some time during early check-ins and it's a modest amount.
Not enough to affect my vacation budget and I try not to get worked up before going to Mexico, to get myself in the mood. And I like not having a wad of cash with me, rather withdrawing pesos as I need. I have, as well, heard that banks are buying currency from the currency exchange folks as well and passing on a service charge. Banks are streamlining like every other business We have used them for over 20 years. The always have the best rate. Always better than the banks and Money Mart.

These conversion fees are usually hidden in the transaction, but any ATM withdrawal fees are usually presented with a message for acceptance. Some ATM and cash machines at airports and train stations may limit the amount withdrawn on your account.
This is to require you to make two or more withdrawals to obtain the cash you need and each withdrawal will have a transaction fee. We recommend either visiting a few ATM's to see if they all have the same limits and if so, get what you need in one transaction and then use another ATM in town that will likely not be restricted. Be aware that some ATMs do not give a choice on which account that money will be pulled from.
We recommend contacting your bank before travel to see which is your 'default' account. Some ATMs also present accounts as different names as what you are used to: Some YVR Vancouver Airport bureau de change offices will have variable conversion factors and commission fees.
